As a youth I was a great fan and therefore wanted to have a bit of a nostalgia trip. Unfortunately it just didn't do it for me and I think I could have spent my money better. Two stars for the one liners but for nothing else

This video contains another three great episodes of one of the best British programmes ever made. It contains the Home Guard attempting to outdo the ARP with a St George vs the Dragon display, Private Pike attempting to impress a lovely young lady and Private Fraser attempting to hang on to his treasured gold. Yet again, the scripts are very funny and the acting spot-on so this video can be watched again and again without losing any of its appeal.

I was nearly put off buying this film as it seems that some of the reviewers don't think it quite as good as the series. However, I have now bought it and think it is brilliantly made, very funny and a wonderful film to put by for a quiet moment during the Christmas holidays when the TV listings are disappointing or for a rainy Sunday afternoon. My children love it, my parents love it, we love it - so nice to be able to sit down to a film together as a family.
Unlike the series which is set solely in Britain parts of this film are of the Germans plotting their invasion from the other side of the Channel. The juxtapositioning of the German preparedness and the British unpreparedness is priceless. You will recognise some plots ... Read More:

Many new doctors first stories have been poor ( Twin Dilema and Time and the rani) but this one is good. Not only is this the first clolour episode(Wow!)but this is beggining of the era of Jon Pertwee my favourite actor to play the Doctor. Here he sets of the Third Doctor with a boom. Here we also see the first apperance of Liz Shaw although she only lasted 25 episodes Pertwee's first season, I found her a wonderful companion. Here the doctor starts his permanent relation with U.N.I.T which was to play a major role with the Third Doctor.Being exiled onto earth into the 20th century by his own people. The script is a classic, written by Robert Holmes. All his stories are classics and this is no exception. The dummies are wondefully life like ... Read More:

I bought the video because I wanted to see what Pertwee's last season was like with Sarah Jayne. After hearing bad things about Pertwee's last season, I was pleasantly surprised. Sarah Jayne was no doubt a big improvement on Jo Grant. The story begins when the Doctor and Sarah crash land on an eerie dark planet which has drained their power so it begins very atmospheric and scary, and is a pretty grippping story throughout. The sets and effects are actually quite impressive, especially when the root comes out of the ground and destroys a dalek. Just overlook the dodgy model work when the city collapses at the end. This is a unique Pertwee story because it is a rare occasion when the story isn't Earth based with no Brigidier. If only more Pertwee stories ... Read More:

The people who chose which episodes went together on these video volumes always liked putting two good episodes with one of the weaker ones (or maybe it's just me).
"Sergeant Wilson's Little Secret" and "Everybody's Trucking" were both great examples of Dad's Army humour. The former was originally filmed in colour, but sadly it was destroyed by the BBC and had to be restored from a black-and-white version of the episode which had been shipped abroad for overseas transmission. The story focuses around Sergeant Wilson's panic when Mrs. Pike begins to talk about having a child, and he assumes that he's made her pregnant. Of course, there's more to it than that, but you'll have to watch it to find out. ;-)

This is a follow up to one of the most popular stories in the Pertwee era! Back with John in this documentary are Captain Yates, Benton and the Brig, this is a absolute must for any fan of the Doctor who world and is great for a present too!!!!

Yes, this is a fantastic serial. I actually enjoyed it more than 'Terror of the Autons' or 'Day of the Daleks'. IMO the only real clunker of Jon Pertwee's final season was 'Monster of Peladon'.
The dinosaur's are obviously fake like many of the old creatures and like much of modern day CGI work. That doesn't get in the way of the story or action; and personally I think they are more effective in colour than and black and white.
Hopefully soon the first episode will be restored to colour and the whole thing released on DVD.
