VHS : Enchanted April [1991]

Enchanted April [1991]

starring: Alfred Molina, Joan Plowright, Miranda Richardson, Polly Walker, Josie Lawrence
directed by: Mike Newell
February 03, 2003

Not particularly for Lethal Weapon fans but a lovely gentle unfolding of a gentle story. It begins in a damp depressing London and end up in beautiful Italy. People, as well as the scenery are transformed and the memorable performances of Polly Walker and Miranda Richardson make for a memorable cinamatic experience. Buy the movie, you'll want to watch it more than once (or twice!).

VHS : Letterland - A Christmas Story

Letterland - A Christmas Story

starring: Josie Lawrence
directed by: Timm Burgess
October 20, 2003

I don't usually like my son (2 yrs) to sit in front of the TV for a long time, but this video has been the exception. He is constantly enthralled by the characters and the stories. When it finishes he will run around singing the names of all the characters in alphabetical order. Just amazing and the books are also brilliant.

VHS : Letterland-The Story

Letterland-The Story

starring: Josie Lawrence
August 18, 1997

I bought this for my 2yr old granddaughter and she watches it so often that the whole family is word perfect on the script. (!!)

We can now point to a letter in a magazine or book and ask her to identify the letters, and she can do it correctly every time. In town, she spontaneously calls out letters she recognises in shop windows.

Letterland is such a fun way to learn. My only disappointment is that there are not many more Letterland titles for us to go through. She loves them and as I mentioned, we are word perfect on all 3 videos we own.

I live in the United States, actually. This show is aired on ABC and I think it's the funniest show ever filmed! My friends and I talk about it constantly. I was at a football (American Game) game when my friend came to me and was bummed because we were gonna miss the show. My sis recorded it and we have every season on VHS! AN AWESOME BUY!

VHS : Costume Drama : Emma, Mansfield Park, Enchanted April

Costume Drama : Emma, Mansfield Park, Enchanted April

starring: Gwyneth Paltrow, Alessandro Nivola, Frances O'Connor, Toni Collette, Alan Cumming
directed by: Douglas McGrath, Mike Newell, Patricia Rozema
September 30, 2002

These are 3 very different tales each with their own gentle charms.

The most outstanding of the 3 has to be Emma. On its own it scores higher than the whole collection. This delightful version sees Ms Paltrow working hard on a convincing english accent and winning. It is a beautiful tale of a young woman who is so wrapped up in organising the love lives of others that she fails to notice her own. The actors work together well to provide a beautiful feel-good period drama that keeps much of the gentle humour from the novel and moves fast enough to entertain all but the most die-hard period drama spoil-sports. The only slight on the movie was the miscasting of the gorgeous Ewan MaGreggor. Fantastic as he is, he didn't work in this. ... Read More:

VHS : Letterland - Once Upon A Time In Letterland

Letterland - Once Upon A Time In Letterland

starring: Josie Lawrence
May 08, 2000

We have a 31/2 year old who has watched the letterland videos since she was 2 years old. She has learnt the alphabet, both the phonic and names of letters and can pick out the letters in ordinary text. She has just started picking out words from books and we are convinced this has been as a result of the Letterland videos. She thoroughly enjoys watching the videos, especially this one of the series,as the story is very well presented and funny , and although she has several videos of different types, is always asking for the Letterland videos to be put on! We all love them!

Outside Edge [1993]

starring: Brenda Blethyn, Robert Daws, Josie Lawrence, Timothy Spall

The first thing to note is that you needn't be a cricket enthusiast to enjoy this superbly crafted comedy series. The script is extremely witty and well observed and is carried off by a gem of a cast. A nice touch is the common theme that runs through the series which is picked up and developed as you progress through the episodes. My one criticism - a major one - is the mind boggling stupidity of the powers that be not to make either this title, the second series or the Corfu special generally available on the shelves at present - especially since this is British comedy at its best ranking, in my view, with legends such as Fawlty Towers!
