VHS : Trainspotting [1996]

Trainspotting [1996]

starring: Ewan McGregor, Ewen Bremner, Jonny Lee Miller, Kevin McKidd, Robert Carlyle
directed by: Danny Boyle
July 12, 2004

as someone from Edinburgh who lived and went to plenty of the places mentioned in Trainspotting i have to say read the book the book instead which has the full content and message rather than just a comic short hand for what was happening at the time. It made fashionista fools think that taking hard drugs was a nice activity and gave them kudos and brought in too many people too Edinburgh looking for that lifestyle.
I have never managed it all the way through and think it is just an alternative advert for Britain for the naively trendy or people who misguided enough to think that the pathos and dark humor wasn't there to balance the story...great cast though and on the whole well acted but an overrated footnote to late 90's Britain

VHS : Bedrooms and Hallways [1999]

Bedrooms and Hallways [1999]

starring: Kevin McKidd, Julie Graham, Simon Callow, Con O'Neill, Harriet Walter
directed by: Rose Troche
February 28, 2000

This is a funny, bizare but overall interesting story, well told and well acted!

If you enjoy campy comedies, which are slightly surreal, very believable and make you almost cry with laughter then this is the one for you!

Comes complete with drum banging men trying to get to love their fellow man! A sex-addict estate agent and his long suffering lover, a man who falls for a straight man only to find his love is recripicated.

It is a great story with great actors! One for any video collection!

VHS : Anna Karenina [2000]

Anna Karenina [2000]

starring: Helen McCrory, Kevin McKidd, Douglas Henshall, Mark Strong, Amanda Root
directed by: David Blair
May 12, 2003

There are people who always try to find fault with everything and everyone...This tv series really fascinated me although I've already seen and bought all the other versions of Anna
Karenina. Indeed I enjoyed G.Garbo and Vivien Leigh's actings
however it's undeniably true and amazing Helen McCrory's performance. The story itself is much more passionate and real than the Hollywod versions we're used to . Nevertheless, in my opinion, comparisons are useless , works of art are to be admired and appreciated as much as possible.

VHS : Looking After Jo Jo [1998]

Looking After Jo Jo [1998]

starring: Robert Carlyle, Jenny McCrindle, Kevin McKidd, Ewan Stewart, Juliet Cadzow
directed by: John Mackenzie
February 02, 1998

I saw this when it was shown on the BBC in 1997, and I still feel it is the best television drama shown since. Nothing has topped it. It is Trainspotting with a social conscience, and if that doesn't sell it, nothing will.

Enjoy.

Very good and very funny film which does not take itself too seriously.

A change from the usual stalk and slash films from Hollywood

what a fantasic piece of acting robert carlyle did when he made the final speech in parliment about guy faulkes, he looked so much like james the 1st it was amazing....he walked like him, sort of crippled and twisted, but the speech went down in history, well worth watching by any fans of james the 1st.............mr carlyle put his heart and soul into that speech, BRAVO !!!!!

Hideous Kinky [1999]

starring: Kate Winslet, Bella Riza, Saïd Taghmaoui, Carrie Mullan, Pierre Clémenti
directed by: Gillies MacKinnon
May 21, 2001

Kate Winslet is a very good actress, there is no doubt about it. She is one of few actors who gives a very honest account of the character she is playing being extremely focused to her work. She does this movie a lot of justice. The story moves slow at times, but fast enough to keep you captivated. Kate is very convincing as a young single British mother on a spiritual journey and quest of self discovery in Morocco. The scenery is also spectacular. Buy this movie along with Holy Smoke if you can. It works out cheaper, it is certainly not worth the money being asked of it on its own.
