VHS : White Buffalo [1977]

White Buffalo [1977]

starring: Charles Bronson, Jack Warden, Will Sampson, Clint Walker, Slim Pickens
directed by: J. Lee Thompson
June 25, 2001

Charles Bronson plays an ageing Buffalo Bill, who is haunted by nightmares of a charging white buffalo. Haunted to such an extent that he sets out to find and kill the creature - which he is even far from certain exists. Along the way, he meets with an Indian Chief who is also hunting the animal since it destroyed his village.

While the special effects leave a bit to be desired (you can see the railtracks that the dummy buffalo is dragged along on through the snow !!!), this doesnt detract from the sense of foreboding the movie builds on, as a haggard Bronson stalks an eery landscape in search of this dangerous, even mythical, creature.

Memorable scenes include a shot of millions of buffalo bones piled high alongside the ... Read More:

VHS : Picnic [1956]

Picnic [1956]

starring: William Holden, Kim Novak, Betty Field, Susan Strasberg, Cliff Robertson
directed by: Joshua Logan
August 30, 1994

Before the Labor Day a hansome stranger swings into a small town of Kansas...and he awakes passions that nobody could imagine that were there.
William Holden plays Hal Carter, an irresponsible guy,who falls for the girl of his best friend, Kim Novak as Madge Owens. Unwillingly he also awakes passions not only to her, but also to her little sister, and to a school teacher at her 40's played excellent by Rosalind Russell.
The love scene between Holden and Novak are sensational, and the dance sequence is one of poetry.
This film is based on the classic play of William Inge and is wonderfully directed by the theatre director Joshua Logan. Although sometimes you may find William Holden a little older than he should have been for this particular ... Read More:

Bruce Lee - Big Boss / Game Of Death / The Legend [1971]

starring: Bruce Lee, Gig Young, Colleen Camp, Dean Jagger, Tai Chung Kim
directed by: Bruce Lee, Jiaxiang Wu, Leonard Ho, Robert Clouse, Sammo Hung Kam-Bo
October 01, 2001

These videos are absolutely a must. It is unfortunate that censors still deem it necesary to cut Lee's films so much. It can not be expressed enough how much Bruce Lee looks the ultimate fighter in all these movies - the man was a legend beyond all doubt! Especially fantastic are the fight scenes in Game of Death - awesome but cut!

VHS : The Mirror Crack'd [1980]

The Mirror Crack'd [1980]

starring: Angela Lansbury, Tony Curtis, Rock Hudson, Geraldine Chaplin, Edward Fox
directed by: Guy Hamilton
August 21, 2000

Lansbury's Miss Marple is nothing like Agatha Christie's chataracter of that name, there is some awful dialogue, yet the film is enjoyable and highly watchable. (Infinitely better than the Rutherfords, though of course inferior to the Joan Hickson version.)I particularly liked the black-and-white opening, the whodunit within the whodunit, and Miss Marple's initial deductions which establish her sleuthorial credentials. Good camera work and wonderful music score.

Sans Soleil [1982]

starring: Florence Delay, Arielle Dombasle, Riyoko Ikeda, Charlotte Kerr, Kim Novak
directed by: Chris Marker
April 06, 1998

Nothing much needs to be added to the other five-star comments already posted. As a film, La Jetée is one of the most unique and sublime 29 minutes (approx.) in the history of cinema; watching it can still send shivers down the spine, it's that good. But, it should be noted, you only get the English voice track on this DVD, and it would have been nice to have had the option of switching to the original French version (as seen, sans subtitles, so the story goes, by the non-French-speaking Terry Gilliam...), just in case, you know.

VHS : Vertigo [1958]

Vertigo [1958]

starring: James Stewart, Kim Novak, Barbara Bel Geddes, Tom Helmore, Henry Jones
directed by: Alfred Hitchcock
April 21, 2003

Vertigo is a well chosen word for the atmosphere of this film. San Francisco detective Scottie (James Stewart) chases a suspect on the rooftops of the buildings, he slips and barely holds on the rain gutter of one building. Another policeman comes to his rescue but he slips and gets killed after falling down. Scottie is deeply affected from this experience and he resigns from the force to open up his own detective agency. One friend of his hires him to guard his wife. What from? Evil spirits that engulf her! Funny enough Scottie does not believe in heresy but once he focuses on the case he is deeply moved with the situation. The wife of his friend spends hours at a certain museum staring at the same portrait of an aristocrat woman who died a century ago. She imitates ... Read More:
