VHS : The Fox And The Hound [1981]

The Fox And The Hound [1981]

starring: Mickey Rooney, Kurt Russell, Pearl Bailey, Jack Albertson, Sandy Duncan
directed by: Art Stevens, Richard Rich, Ted Berman
March 27, 2000

Along with Robin Hood, this is my favourite Disney film (and probably has made me love foxes for life! :p). The plot is fantastic - I may have only been 5 when I first saw it but it still keeps me engaged now, 10+ years later.

Unlike Robin Hood, however, it has about four scenes where I cry; forget Bambi, this film has potential to be a true weepy when you're involved in it enough! Start to care about the main characters (Todd and Copper) and it's a never ending spiral.

VHS : Tombstone [1993]

Tombstone [1993]

starring: Kurt Russell, Val Kilmer, Sam Elliott, Bill Paxton, Powers Boothe
directed by: George P. Cosmatos
November 01, 1994

Tombstone is an immensely enjoyable western. And this version - the Vista series / Director's Cut - is the best one to get. I ordered it from the USA and it came in immaculate condition in an amazingly short time; but what's on it?

There are 3 bite sized featurettes (about 10 mins each): An Ensemble Cast; Making An Authentic Western; The Gunfight at the OK Corral. There is an Interactive Timeline of the actual events as they took place, Director's Storyboards, an Actual Newspaper Account (which you navigate around to read in your own time), a DVD-Rom featuring the game of Faro (the game Wyatt Earp runs in the film), also a fold out map of the actual layout of Tombstone including the OK Corral, an Insert booklet and not least - a director's ... Tango And Cash [1989]

starring: Sylvester Stallone, Kurt Russell, Teri Hatcher, Jack Palance, Brion James
directed by: Albert Magnoli, Andrei Konchalovsky
August 14, 2000

Great movie, one of my favourite films from my childhood, and by far the greatest buddie movie ever made. I've got this film on a ancient VHS and still watch it from time to time. Look out for the late great Brion James of Blade Runner fame as the dodgy cockney geezer. Great perfomances from Sly, Russell and Palance too.

VHS : Big Trouble In Little China [1986]

Big Trouble In Little China [1986]

starring: John Carpenter|Kurt Russell|Kim Cattrall|Dennis Dun

Fortunately I have managed to miss this film over the last 22 years. I'm saying that because I suspect if I had seen it when it first came out I wouldn't have appreciated it. Now though, following Kill Bill and many other martial arts epics this is a refreshing change from the usual Hollywood stodge.

Kurt Russell is superb as Jack, a wise-cracking truck driver who accidently stumbles upon an extremly unlikely plot revolving around two girls with green eyes and an ancient magician who is seeking to gain ultimate power by marrying one or both of the girls. As intimated above the magician, who is called Lo Pan, has a vague similarity to Mei Pei in Kill Bill. Kim Cattrall is one of the two leading actresses, who is now of course much more famous for 'Sex and ... Read More:

VHS : Tequila Sunrise [1989]

Tequila Sunrise [1989]

starring: Mel Gibson, Michelle Pfeiffer, Kurt Russell, Raul Julia, J.T. Walsh
directed by: Robert Towne
April 19, 1999

One of these films that are so intricate that you seem to lose the line along the road, especially since the road is slightly tortuous and at least in the high sierras. It is well played and acted. It is well set and shot. It is well produced and edited. It's just that the story is too complicated for anyone to be able to get all the truth out of the marsh, all the light out of the pitch, all the fun out of the nunnery. One woman who is both desired and feared by at least three men and two of these three men are wanted by all kinds of American or Mexican polices and the third man in question is a local cop. Simple indeed. They have microphones and voice-catchers everywhere. They have binoculars and cameras everywhere. They see and hear and know everything and yet they get fooled like ... Read More:

When i watched this movie, I said God don't let it come here. this is a brilliant film about horror and the human fight for survival against an unknown monster.
