I love this film and the sequel By The Light Of The Silvery Moon (1953) with one of my favourite actresses and singers Doris Day.
I remember as a child watching this and loving every minute of it. I am now 42 years old and was not even born when it was released but have seen it on TV many times and have copies of them on Video. My Mum got me into Doris Day with her music and films but this and its sequel are my favourites of hers and Mum's to.
It is a true family musical film about childhood, growing up, life in the early 19th Century USA.
I ordered my copy and the sequel from Amazon USA as I could not wait for it to become available on Region 2 DVD. I can now at last retire my old worn out VHS Tapes ... Read More:

Garland has a pretty nasty voice by any measure, and the songs themselves set a high standard in banalty.
The awful sweetness of this DVD would make a hardened sailor wretch, but the thing trots along briskly enoough, for which it merits 2, not 1 stars.

Having read the book myself as a young child, some twenty years ago I was delighted to discover it had made it to the screen. Watching the movie for the first time brought back all the excitement and wonder that I felt as a child as I eagerly read from page to page. I thought the film was as true to the book as I could remember it. Now, having watched this film over and over with my two young boys, I have ordered the book for them to enjoy themselves, just as I did. I have also discovered the books were part of a continuing series, and I loved this film SO much I would be really delighted if the film production company decided to follow on with the next installment. Great for children - and grown-ups who loved to read as young children. All ... Read More:

The actual royal rumble match in itself was solid and a superb performance by stone cold who was set to dominate the industry after this for a while, also noteworthy is the entrance of a young wrestler called rocky maivia who would develop into the rock ,the single greatest thing that happened to wrestling in recent years, however this was 1997 and the wwf didnt have the talent that they would later have, they were chasing wcw and losing at this juncture and it showed, although i was always wwf, always, this has not aged well.
Staying with the actual royal rumble if i may,the dross that made its way to the ring at times was shameful, wrestlers that were never gonna have a wwe career,i didnt see the point in all the masked mexican wrestlers, about 5 ... Read More:

One of the best film on WWII in London... and surprisingly enough not available in the UK (and not even in European format). I first saw the film about 15 years ago and have now bought it for my daughter (it fits perfectly with the year 3 curriculum) and of course for me. I think we've watched it about 10 times over the last 6 months. Moving and fun, don't hesitate to buy it.

Having repeatedly seen and enjoyed this video and having visited many sites in Japan, where scenes were filmed, I find it a classic portrayal of historical life in feudal Japan.
Visiting the various castles (many hundreds of years old and still in superb condition), plus ryokan, bath-houses and Samurai homes of great vintage, this video set so well displays the atmosphere of the times that one can visualise the battles and human struggles/relationships as one tours.
