Son Of The Morning Star [1991]

starring: Gary Cole, Rosanna Arquette, Stanley Anderson, Edward Blatchford, George Dickerson
directed by: Mike Robe
March 31, 1997

The best ever filmed action scenes of The Greasy Grass - Little Big Horn...
The best possible reenactors...
The best uniformology around...
And it REALLY clicks with ALL the books written about it... (at least the BEST of them...)

SO???... WHY NOT DVD???...(It took me years to find out but I got an AUSTRALIAN EDITION!!!... thanks to ebay...) even the HISTORICALLY inferior THEY DIED WITH THEIR BOOTS ON is on DVD (and I have it, TOO!!! BECAUSE IT'S A GREAT OLD FLICK IN B&W... AND QUITE GOOD ACW PERIOD FILM...), and was a favorite when a child!... but that silly hollow square AT THE LBH !!!... forget about CUSTER OF THE WEST... it is a shame... and revisionists can have LITTLE BIG MAN too!!!... I DO NOT THINK ... Read More:

VHS : After Hours [1985]

After Hours [1985]

starring: Griffin Dunne, Rosanna Arquette, Verna Bloom, Tommy Chong, Linda Fiorentino
directed by: Martin Scorsese
March 22, 1993

This film, for me, is great film making. It stands completely on its brilliant, original story plus great acting from all. There are no "formula" additives of big star, big budget, over-the-top story, or any other Hollywood chemicals to artificially sweeten the product.

It is a night in the life of an ordinary hum-drum office worker that becomes a surreal rollercoaster ride of mishaps and coincidences, after reading a book on his own in a cafe leads to him meeting a charming but mysterious strange woman. The night slowly turns into a neverending nightmare - funny, as long as these acts of fate arent happenning to you!

I found this film a hoot, really watchable and recommend to anyone looking for some lighthearted fun.

VHS : Black Rainbow [1989]

Black Rainbow [1989]

starring: Rosanna Arquette, Jason Robards, Tom Hulce, Mark Joy, Ron Rosenthal
directed by: Mike Hodges
April 11, 1994

Saying that Black Rainbow is one of its director's best films doesn't sound much of a compliment when you're talking about a man whose résumé includes Morons From Outer Space and not one but two Clive Owen stinkers even if it is true. Mike Hodges' reputation these days rests solely on a gangster movie he made 35 years ago, and the fact that his subsequent efforts have either been too clinical to work (The Terminal Man), too flawed to completely satisfy (Pulp), outright awful (A Prayer for the Dying) or saw him fired early in production (Damien: Omen II) has done little to deter labelling him as a one-hit wonder. True to his run of luck, this neat little supernatural thriller was barely released, going straight to cable in the US and getting caught up in a ... Read More:

VHS : Pulp Fiction [1994]

Pulp Fiction [1994]

starring: John Travolta, Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson, Tim Roth, Amanda Plummer
directed by: Quentin Tarantino
September 16, 1996

I liked this film when I first saw it and now I have changed my mind with repeated watching. Like all Tarantino films, the dialogue between characters is unnatural. It feels like one person talking to themselves. The characters all talk in this faux intelligent geeky way about tiny things and there is no discernable differences between outlook or delivery of the characters words. The story doesn't hang together very well and the use of celebrity cameos is just celuloid cronyism. I fell for the hype, save your time and money and don't buy into this trash. Travolta is a fake, Jackson can't act, QT is annoying, Thurman is lovely, Keitel is cheesey and not at all hard like he makes out. There is too much wrong with this film to call it a classic. It's silly. At least ... Read More:

VHS : The Whole Nine Yards [2000]

The Whole Nine Yards [2000]

starring: Bruce Willis, Matthew Perry, Rosanna Arquette, Michael Clarke Duncan, Natasha Henstridge
directed by: Jonathan Lynn
May 14, 2001

The Whole Nine Yards is an enjoyable romantic comedy about assassins and the mob. It's nice to see Bruce Willis mocking his tendency to be typecast by taking a role as a mobster in a film of this genre. There's wheeling and dealing and a fair few plot twists to keep you entertained after a convicted murderer (Willis) moves into a quiet neighbourhood next door to a law abiding, impressionable dentist (Matthew Perry). I'm not a real fan of romantic comedies but this one has a punch to it.

Crash [1996]

starring: James Spader, Holly Hunter, Deborah Unger, Rosanna Arquette

July 01, 2002

The dialogue is so thin you have to invent a lot of the story for yourself. Good crew with some good performances and just on the Art House side of Soft Porn. Should have been better.
