clearly meant as a spoof on the "hammer" horror films, this is one of my favourite carry ons. the fact that sid james isn't in it does not matter, as harry h. corbett makes for a wonderful replacement as a police officer investigating the disappearances of young women in a local park. corbett's performance is a joy to behold. equally good in the supporting cast, are kenneth williams as the mad scientist, jim dale as the nervous boyfriend of one of the missing women and peter butterworth as corbett's clumsy assistant.
for this particular carry on, a period setting was created and it looks extremely well done.
one hiliarious scene, is when corbett and dale are sharing a double bed when a snake worms its way through. unaware of ... Read More:

The patient is Francis Bigger, played by Frankie Howerd, and the line is a sly reference to the funniest scene in Carry On Nurse. It's probably the cleverest line in Carry On Doctor. Like Carry On Nurse, Carry On Doctor takes place in hospital and, as the movie says, is a bedpanorama of hospital life.
The long-running Carry On movies were bawdy, low-comedy, good-natured madhouses that featured a repertory company of comics we came to recognize instantly. Here, the company is made up of Kenneth Williams, Jim Dale, Hattie Jacques, Sid James, Joan Sims, Charles Hawtrey, Barbara Windsor and Bernard Bresslaw, among others. They play the patients, the doctors and the nurses at Finisham Hospital. If you relish jokes about bedpans and hernias, ... Read More:

Following hot on the trail of Carry On Constable (1959), Peter Rogers and Gerald Thomas came up with a slightly less ambitious comedy with Carry On Regardless. There is really no strong backbone of a plot in this one with it centering around The Helping Hands Agency. The Agency takes on six unemployed men and women and one of the clerks at the labour exchange who decides to join them in a quest for a new, more exciting job. They each find themselves plunged into a very odd, diverse range of assigments, which range from taking a chimp out for the day, trying to stay sober at a wine tasting and demonstrating new pieces of equipment at the Ideal home Exhibition. Of course being a Carry on film, everything they put their hands to turns horribly wrong! As there is just basically a series ... Read More:

When Carry On Sergeant hit cinemas in 1958 nobody could have predicted how long the series was actually going to run. The very first Carry On film saw Peter Rogers as the producer and Gerald Thomas as the director (together they made all 31 Carry on films). A low budget farce, the film doesn't entireley encapsulate the feel of a typical Carry On film though gave mere hints of what was to come over the next 20 odd years. An army based comedy where strict, no-nonsense drill sergeant, William Hartnell (who was not a bit unlike his ferocious character in real life) attempts to train a bunch of eccentric, accident-prone young men into soldiers fit for fighting the war. Of course when you have the likes of Kenneth Williams, Charles Hawtrey and Kenneth Connor amongst the cast you pretty much can guess ... Read More:

this film isn't exactly what i would call a real classic. sure, it has all the usual actors but it doen't any humourous moments, like some of the other films in the series. The ending is just plain embarissing. it made me cringe.
watch this if you a fan.
My son adores this film, i haven't discovered why yet but i've been watching him very closely and i think that some of the scenes are a little to saturating for him to handle.

This is my personal favourite Carry On. It was also Hattie Jacques favourite as it contains a strong touch of feminism. Whatever it's a great laugh and a clever plot full of side plots and corny love interest which holds your attention. If you've seen "She Devil" with Roseanne Barr you'll find something familar here as the plot is based on Carry on Cabby!
