Well fellow Doctor fans, it's all there. The crashing synthesisers. The maniacal laughter. The bad sets. The corridors. The plot twists. The Master. The Daleks. The drama. The tension! This little effort is a gem that the Doctor would wear proudly, and better still its all in a good cause. A loving satire that will have every true fan rolling on the floor. A magnificent tribute to a genre that will hopefully never die...I won't spoil it by telling you the end, but let me just say that Joanna Lumley gets my vote. As for the rest of the tape, its devoted to Doctor sketches by other greats of British comedy, and its just as good. French and Saunders were clearly connoisseurs. Highly recommended.

If Voyager was able to sustain even close to this level of quality, it would have been a really great series.

As it is, when it's good, it's damn good, and these episodes are a particularly good example of Voyager being good.

There's the Borg and tension and more Borg and some back story on our favourite ex-drone and some really great interaction between Cap'n Kate and said ex-drone.

Miss this one at your peril.

Doctor Who - The Movie [1996] [1963] This is perhaps one of the most underated DVD's in the whole Doctor Who series both new and classic. The main problem is the bad guy or more specifically the actor who portrays him, Eric Roberts is a great bad guy in lots of B'Movies but just wasn't right for this film (his choice was forced on the writers/director due to pressure from the american backers). On the whole though the film is a great little jaunt, the interior of the TARDIS is fantastic and McGann plays the role fantastically. idea for the future (McCoy, McGann, Eccleston and Tennant) The Four Doctors

The 1980 film, in its original release, remains truly outstanding and worthy of Distinction. It is a classic, as recognised by the American Film Registry. There is much beauty in each cinematic shot, and excellent characterisation and acting.

The Limited Edition DVD is out for a 'limited time only'. This DVD contains two discs: the main feature being the original 1980 version -much anticipated, and a 'digitally remastered movie'- in which many areas of the film are digitally remodified, recreated, re-rendered, extended, and even overembellished, all for various reasons - all the details of which have been much commented on elsewhere on the internet.

Doomwatch - The Plastic Eaters / Tomorrow, The Rat

starring: John Paul, Simon Oates, Robert Powell
directed by: Paul Ciappessoni, Terence Dudley

Back in 1970 I stayed up late enough to watch this gripping drama series and loved it. The ideas were fresh and new at the time and were firmly based on real science (co-creator Kit Pedlar was a scientist whose first venture into sci fi with writer Gerry Davis was the creation of the Cybermen).
Looking back now, the drama holds up well. John Paul is superb as Quist the driven leader of Doomwatch a watchdog group keeping an eye on potentially dangerous scientific projects. Quist is predictably kept in the dark about any remotely important project and his battle with 'The Minister' is central to many of the stories.
'The Plastic Eaters' opened the series and boasts a fine script (compromised occasionaly by the need to introduce too much background ... Read More:

First off, a Warning: This review contains plot spoilers, if you have not seen The Daleks, read no further.

This is IT. The beginning of the most famous and recognisable, in Britian at least, villans ever to appear on the small screen.

The original designs of the monsters, the original Terry Nation Who story. And yet, although this is the first time that we see the Daleks it is very different to what they became.

In their debut the Daleks are not universe-conquering monsters out to chase and exterminate anything that they can see. They are people, they are a nation. Admittedly they are very suspicious and xenophobic, but only to the point of fear of what is not like them. They have clear and understandable motives.

As a 13 year old kid in 1983, the original V miniseries was huge; it seems like all of my friends watched it and talked about it. Certain memories of this small screen epic have stayed with me for many years, and I was overjoyed when the miniseries was released on VHS. What kid could forget the images of the giant motherships hovering above our major cities, the first glimpse at the true, reptilian faces of the visitors underneath their human masks, and--above all else--the horrible yet incredibly cool sight of watching the visitors eating live rats and other small creatures? This really was a landmark event in television and science fiction; if my memory serves me, this was actually one of television's very first miniseries and did much to lay the groundwork for ... 'The Five Doctors' has since been released on dvd (twice) so I will restrict this review to the two part story 'The King's Demons'. This was not meant to be the last story of the 20th season, but ended up being so due to a strike that resulted in a Dalek story being cancelled. As such, it is hardly the bang that a season should end with, simply showing the Master meddling around with history. At two parts at least it does not outstay it's welcome. It is surprising that JNT ever allowed Kamelion to come aboard the TARDIS as a new companion, seeing that he did not like K9. Regular viewers would have had no problem identifying the story's villain the moment he appears in 'disguise'. That aside, this is a watchable enough tale, though no classic.
