When The Boat Comes In - The Complete Series 1 [1976]

starring: James Bolam, Susam Jameson, James Garbutt, Jean Heywood, John Nightingale

A heart warming and emotive view of post First World War Tyneside. Showing the heartache, poverty and deprivation but the strong and proud spirit of the people of the region and no doubt heavy industrial communities nationwide, that sadly no longer exist. However it's not all doom and gloom and there's merriment as well. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this BBC drama, that at one time attracted millions to the telly to watch yet for some strange reason was never repeated. I would recommend this to everyone, a classic. I can't wait for the full series to be released as it's not taken me long to watch all six videos in fact I've had to ration myself otherwise I'll have a long wait. James Bolam, Susan Jameson and the rest of the cast are excellent ... Read More:

You can take it from me - five stars are not enough when it comes to rating the West Wing. This series is head and shoulders above any other drama on TV. I have all of the DVD's released so far and I am anxiously waiting for Season 5 (By the way - does anyone know when it will be released?)

From the incredible writing to the exceptional performances by the actors, this show is a treat for the senses. It will have you laughing and crying and I promise you it is never dull. Some of the storylines have been almost prophetic and all have been filled with a quality unmatched by any other dramatic series.

If you have never seen this show - buy the DVD anyway. You will not be disappointed!

The 1997 series was a disappointment after three fantastic series of Harry Enfield comedy, so I was glad to see things back on form with this Christmas special. True, there are still the unfunny German tourist and the self-righteous brothers (whose 'humour' seems to revolve around Enfield shouting "OI! NO!" in a fake-sounding Cockney accent). But there are more hits than misses on this video. Tim Nice-But-Dim has an alien encounter, for example. There are also some masterful combinations of comedy with dark undertones - Kevin tries to be tactful when his grandfather dies at Christmas, and we get a glimpse of Christmas from the viewpoint of a child whose parents hate each other. There's also a lot of extra sketches which weren't in the TV-broadcasted show. ... Read More:

The Ali G show is the funniest most brilliant piece of comedy that depicts the 90's - 2000 generation. He has 3 alter egos Ali G, Borat and Bruno and he goes around interviewing people pretending to be one of his many alter egos he plays the role so well i even wonder if he fools himself sometimes. If you are even contemplating buying this DVD stop and just do it! Ali G's style demonstrates what length his interviewees will go without in their opinion not making a fool of themselves. Watch out for the interview with a member of the aristocracy.
