I wasn't expecting this to be any good, and after studying it at school decided to buy it for a bit of a joke.
This was a hundred times worse than I could have imagined, cringeworthy and veering entirely away from the character of Heathcliff, instead it was something of an egotistical adventure for an ageing Cliff, in which the songs were appalling, weren't catchy and just didn't make sense!
I was paralysed with laughter for the duration of this and for anyone who has any love for Wuthering Heights- avoid it at all costs.
Highlights include the jungle tribe that Heathcliff 'trades' with, and the brooding scenes of Cliff on the moors.
Although it doesn't quite work, it's definitely worth watching. Some great performances. Could have cut a few of the stories out completely though. Should have focused on Colin Firth, Emma Thompson and Hugh Grant. The rest weren't really worth it although the Laura Linney storyline was moving. I cried a little and laughed a little, and I guess it kept me more engaged than most films I see.
Actually, the absolute best thing about this film is Lynden David Hall singing at the wedding at the beginning. He died a couple of years ago and it was a shock - but a beautiful one - to see him in the film, I had no idea! Beautiful man with a beautiful voice. RIP.

As a mere stripling of seventeen years old, Steve Ellis set the charts alight as lead vocalist with the Love Affair. Since then, Steve has been buffeted by the blasts of music fashion and personal mishaps that would've put a more delicate soul in a care home. This album is a copper-bottomed cracker, though, with Ellis in peerless vocal form - try Nu Clear Blues or Requiem For A Tyrant for starters. The guy has still got an immacualte set of blue-eyed soul vocal pipes, and I hope that the album does well enough for him to keep on keepin' on. They don't make 'em like this anymore, and what we've got left, we should treasure.

The only real complaint about "Mickey's Christmas Carol" is that it only runs 25 minutes, which means the story gets a bit rushed. The rest, such as the idea that Goofy should play Marley, is just quibbling (Goofy has the height to make it work). On the plus side of the ledger is the on-point casting of Uncle Scrooge McDuck as Ebenezer, Mickey Mouse as Bob Crachit, and Jiminy Cricket as the Ghost of Christmas Past. Historically "Mickey's Christmas Carol" was important for Disney because it was the first animated Mickey Mouse short in thirty years. Since these are the Disney characters inhabiting the familiar roles from "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens, you end up with a winning combination of goofy humor and warm sentiments. However, you cannot help but thinking ... Read More:

The title says it all, I think and the reviewer who considers it classist and misogynist has obviously failed to see the point of the movie which actually makes fun of these attitudes. Remember the scene at Mrs. Higgin's house or Alfred P. Doolite's remarks on 'middle-class morality' - hardly narrow-minded.

Far better than this meagre release would indicate. Solid performances from everyone, a clever story with a few twists and it's nice to see an unashamedly feel good movie that manages to end without ladling on the syrup factor.
It has been shown on UK TV by Channel 4 in widescreen, so why the R1 1.33 only vanilla release?
We demand a decent DVD release. I'd replace mine like a shot for a good widescreen transfer with a few insights from cast and crew into the making. Some of the scenes out in the countryside on their car journey just scream out for the open vista of widescreen.
And careful not be a spoiler, but I'd love to know whether the need to have main cast members releasing feathers from their pockets at a crucial moment was down ... Read More:

Originally, we bought this video for the benefit of our two young daughters and we have played it over the Christmas period for many years. In fact, the whole family sings along to the on-screen lyrics and it is wonderful fun. This video can be heartily recommended for children and 'the young at heart'. It is well recorded in Stereo/Hi Fi.
