From the creator of Ah My Goddess comes You're under arrest! Set in the traffic department of the Bokuto police station the series follows two partners, Kobayakawa Miyuki and Tsujimoto Natsumi. The series mainly follows the relationships of these two and their friends but it also features some great high speed chases and a lot of other action through out the series. In this edition you are introduced to the main characters such as the two previously mentioned and others such as Nakajima Ken (an admirer of Miyuki), Yoriko (the loud mouth office gossip) and the captain of the department (only ever refered to as captain). I found that the animation is brilliant and the chases are usually fast an furious with well recognised vehicles. The first ... Read More:

This is the story of a simple, ill educated, impoverished Kurdish family, who live in Turkey, where Kurds are a disenfranchised people. This family has a cousin who lives and works in Switzerland, and, upon hearing from him via a postcard, are led to believe that he is doing very well, indeed. Seeking to better their circumstances and those of their many children, they decide to leave Turkey and look to Switzerland for a new beginning. The husband and wife, who head up the family, decide to leave all their children behind, except for one, a son, whom they will take with them on this arduous journey to Switzerland, where they hope to be able to make a new and better life that will allow them to send for their other children.
I feel I should stress first of all, unlike some other reviewers on these pages, that I can differentiate a good film from a film with lots of action; some of my favourite films being Shawshank Redemption, Taxi Driver, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, and also The Matrix and Die Hard!
Ghost Dog to me however, is not a good film. The biggest problem here is that the film's apparent low budget has not been manipulated to make it work. I couldn't bring myself to be convinced by mobsters in suits hanging around the back of restaurants etc, which isn't helped by the overall mediocre acting of the film.
The fusing of black culture and the mafia just didn't seem to gel at all and the overall structure of the film, with it's samurai ... Read More:

A great Grindhouse-style film. BAISE-MOI is a pseudo-documentary-style film which shows very graphic images of sex and violence. It's very nihilistic and actually it's trash, but there's something about it, and if you look at it as what it is and don't watch it with the expectation of seeing an oscar worthy film, you won't be disappointed. Don't expect too much of a story or great acting though.
UK Version is cut. Features a very graphic rape scene withh real (!) penetration. Also feature real sex scenes (instead of simulated).

Was Jean Cocteau the Oscar Wilde of cinema? Like Wilde's writings, I'm never sure if Cocteau's films are as deep as their surfaces suggest, or if they are all marvelous surface, but the more I see them, the less inclined I am to worry about that, because they are gorgeous. This film can strike one as a tad pretentious, a precious little dance with myth, but for me, at least, a second viewing dispelled that sense. Quite unlike any other film I can name, more mature than La Belle et la Bete, a modern (1949 modern) re-imagining of Greek myth by way of Rilke, dreamlike in the best sense, mysterious and moving, with Death and her servant Heurtebise oddly the most touching characters. Highly highly recommended.

Kurosawa and Mifune come together in this classic tale of revenge. Mifune infiltrates a family to avenge the forced suicide of his father. The plot slowly builds like a spaghetti western. Some critic unfairly pan the film because of its introduction which they feel is out of synch. However the introduction introduces Mifune's character Nishi and his surface motives into the story. There is an interesting parallel between the witches in Hamlet and the journalists in the opening scene of the film and their dicussions which move the plot along.
The negative effects of the media were also echoed in other Mifune films
