I first saw this beautiful and legendary film today and all I can say is, what a gem it really is!
The storyline is wonderful, the acting is truely unbeatable and "Kes" will make you both laugh and cry.
Lynne Perrie who later went on to play Ivy Tilsley in Coronation Street, deserves recognition as a fantastic actress, I loved her in "Corrie", "Queenie's Castle", "Follyfoot", "Leeds United" and of course, her infamous appearances on "The Word" and "Shooting Stars". But perhaps her best work is "Kes" where she plays the mouthy Mrs. Casper.
The other actors are also brilliant and the storyline is strong.
Above all, this film is a truely remarkable piece of work that I can fully recommened you see.

A cold, chilling, interpretation of Vincent's last days. Actor Jacques Dutronc picked up the 1992 Cesar Award for his performance as Vincent as his demise to madness finally causes him to commit suicide. Dutronc play Vincent as removed and seemigly not always 'quite with it.' His performance is brooding and sometimes confusing which makes you want and need to see this film again and again, discovering something new about Vincent upon each viewing. 'Towering...powerful...masterly...this is a film to savour' Said The Times and they were right!

anyone who has watched a john walters film can normally sum up any of his film as they are all as equally as camp...unfortunatlly divine is not in this one,but as always we have the repulsive, but oddly loveable edith massey there to add a bit of charm(though not for her ability as an actress) as always the plot of any j.w film is totally irrellevant as they are meant for shock value and general level of sleaze. but,for a night of jaded humour on a night in it is a film you could watch again and again as it is a very fun film with a lot of dark surreal scenes. p.s , you dont have to be weird to enjoy it! ..........martin davies

Strike is a film from highly-influential director Sergei Eisenstein, who was part of the early Soviet Cinema movement. Starring the Proletkult Workers theatre it's about a worker who is wrongfully accused of stealing a micrometer and therefore commits suicide out of humiliation. The workers organise a strike and a committee is set up to organise the strike, which sadly leads to deadly consequences. The story is set in 1912 under the Czarist dictatorship.
One of Eisensteins ideas he put to film was to abolish art because of it's uselessness and based his other ideas for film towards socialist ideas which he succeeded.
The film soundtrack makes the film all the more powerful combining class struggle with a classical ... Read More:

as someone from Edinburgh who lived and went to plenty of the places mentioned in Trainspotting i have to say read the book the book instead which has the full content and message rather than just a comic short hand for what was happening at the time. It made fashionista fools think that taking hard drugs was a nice activity and gave them kudos and brought in too many people too Edinburgh looking for that lifestyle.
I have never managed it all the way through and think it is just an alternative advert for Britain for the naively trendy or people who misguided enough to think that the pathos and dark humor wasn't there to balance the story...great cast though and on the whole well acted but an overrated footnote to late 90's Britain

This is a wonderful piece of story telling. It's a very sad and unfortunately short film. It's good to have a little knowledge of the Kimagure series and the relationships of the characters, but it's not essential. The film does not explore the wacky physic skills stuff, it just concentrates on the emotions that it portrays so brilliantly. This film is a must for all soft anime fans, who don't insist on rating The Guyver with 5 stars

Others have written excellent in depth reviews so ill keep mine short.
Firstly, watch it. The movie is a masterpiece and you are transfixed into the film from start to finish. Life in India is a cultural phenomenon and there is such a different way of life from the rosy settings we see in normal Hindi cinema.
Manju and her mother are by far my most favourite characters in a movie. Their story is one of tradgedy and despair. Their relationship shows a love that has nothing to do with the mothers job as a prostitute and the acting is so precise and beautiful to watch.
Mira Nair is truly an art director whose work is becoming a massive influence on eastern and western cinema. Watch Monsoon Wedding and The Namesake for movies ... Read More:

"Last Tango" is a demonstration of how a good director and one great performance do not a masterpiece make. On paper it looks promising: a film about casual sex as emotional recovery, when a middle-aged American man, Paul, (Brando) embarks on a mindless animalistic fling with a pretty student, Jeanne (Maria Scheider) who, for reasons which are never entirely clear, melts into his arms at their first encounter, as two prospective tenants looking over a flat to rent. Eventually his numbed emotions thaw, he falls in love, she rejects him. When he won't take No for an answer, she kills him.
Yes, Brando is stunning. As an actor he was always pushing at the boundaries of what was possible, and here his physical disgust and self-loathing is painfully credible. ... Read More:

Black and white silent movie with English subtitles. Sound track relevant to the story. Original title "Tagebuch einer Verlorenen"
Thymiane (Louise Brooks) not aware of the relationship her father had with another of his housekeepers Elisabeth (Sybille Schmitz); she is confused as to why the housekeeper had to leave and ultimately why the housekeeper committed suicide. This results in an offspring. The father pays the pharmacist's debt in exchange for making an honest woman of Thymiane. However she reneges and holds out for love; naturally this is unacceptable so she and her diary are sent off to a ... Read More:
