The western digital size passport/mybook drives are too small for this case, however they can be held within due to the elastic strp holding it snug. The case opens up in two one side for the drive and the other for cables or other stuff you'd like to keep. I prefer to keep the included cable with the passport drive which also helps to stop the small drive moving around. On the other side I keep a longer double headed lindy cable (used for older machines where one usb slot is not enough power, so two slots are required) this stops the drive moving the vertically and not put a strain on the strap.

I've already got an older 60GB My Passport which is excellent; has always worked fine even after dropping it five feet onto a wooden floor.
The new one (320GB My Passport Essential) looks much the same and I am confident that it will be just as good...once I get it powered up. I plugged it into my four-year-old home Dell laptop and it failed to start up; the older 60GB version works fine attached to that computer. When I plugged the 320GB My Passport into my newer work laptop it worked absolutely fine. The solution is to phone Western Digital European Tech Support (00800 275 49338) who know all about this problem; it is because older computers may not deliver enough power via the USB port to power the My Passport. Bought 6 of these - 4 failed within less than a year. There are far better drives available. Would like to give WD drives a zero rating but amazon doesn't allow it. I'll never buy a Western Digital drive again.

Yes had this item for a week and it seems great. Was considering the Freecom Toughdrive but decided to go for the Buffalo after reading the great reviews, you also get the bonus of a lot more storage. Setup is easy and its quiet and cool. Very pleased with it. Loads photos and music quickly. Its a pity its gone out of stock at present with Amazon and its a bit more expensive from the external suppliers.

I bought 1TB a couple of weeks ago, therefor not much info on use and longevity yet. I Unpacked it, plugged in power and USB - worked immediately as described [I am not a techy]. I bought this one for huge storage at amazing price. I have had 'my book' 500gb and 250gb for a year - this was £10 cheaper than 1TB MyBook. It makes more of a whirring and clicking noise when 'thinking' but otherwise seems to operate much the same. Little light on top corner as opposed to the 'star trek' illuminated circle of the MyBook means to my eye, not quite so pleasing - but the Buffalo looks ok on the shelf. but hey, i bought for price [and obviously reliability - Buffalo has ok reviews] not aesthetics.

This USB drive is an absolute bargain, costing no more than an internal drive of the same capacity. It is large enough to requre the use of an AC power supply, in case anyone was wondering. The case is very neat and the rubber protective ends are very functional. The best feature however is that it powers itself down when my laptop goes into sleep mode. Making it ideal for playing music, or even large batch tasks, it will simply turn off with the pc after a period of inactivity.
