Really great book. All the recipes have pictures of the steps and the end result. All very easy and quick to make, even to keep the concentration of my 3 year old who enjoys doing it with me, except she is very particular about me making them exactly like the pictures! Not sure I have any other recipe book on my shelf where I would enjoy every single item in the book.

I bought this cookbook for my 14 year old twin sons, who have always enjoyed cooking alongside me, but never attempted anything on their own before.
They both instantly loved this book, saw lots of things that they fancied cooking, but, unlike many other cookbooks, felt confident enough to give them a go.
My sons are very dyslexic, but they found the layout easy to follow and the pictures useful.
These are not groundbreaking recipes, or even the best renditions of well-known dishes, but they work fine, are well illustrated and introduce young cooks to a range of techniques in a very straightforward, jargon free way.
There are also (from my point of view) helpful comments on diet and nutrition, ... Read More:

I have been a vegetarian for over 20 years, surviving on pizza & ready meals & have just started living with a meat-eater, what do i do??!! i bought this book a couple of months ago & already i need a replacement as mine is so dog-eared & covered in goodness knows what ingredients! It has a fabulous choice of tasty, easy to cook recipes that are cheap to make. Mine & my friends' favourites are the Oriental Tuna casserole & my boyfriend's is the Hungarian Goulash, and as he's half Hungarian i was so very proud to be able to make this for him, i didn't let on how easy it was!! It's also such excellent value for money it would be criminal not buy it!

Although keen on cooking, my 9 year old was underwhelmed by this book. Many of the recipes are too simple - fine for 5 year olds maybe but probably insufficiently challenging for older kids - but of course it all depends on your child's existing level of skill and enthusiasm.

Too self consciously teen orientated for anyone over 13. The recipes are actually quite good, but for kids who are still cooking for fun, with parents paying the food bills.
I was after something for the reluctant cook, and this isn't it. However for a young Jamie Oliver wannabe, probably a good buy.

This recipe book is a superb addition to anyone's culinary library - clearly not every recipe will suit every person but it is inconceivable that you would not find a significant number of useful recipes in here and even if you found just one nugget, then considering the price, it would be well worth it.
I actually used this book quite heavily at first and have done so on a regular basis ever since. And still do.
The variety of recipes in this and the rest of the 1000 series is simply staggering - to say you are stuck for choice is an understatement.
Ok, so there are no photographs but against that, the books don't cost a fortune either and they are compact.
This book really gets back to the basics of cookery. It is a 'no frills' guide that tells you all the things you wish you could remember from your mother's cooking. The simple recipes give good results and give you the confidence to go on to develop and adapt them. Highly recommended.

As a young adult librarian, and an amature cook, I have nothing but good things to say about this cookbook. I found it to be well designed, fun to read, and highly informative, but never intimidating. I've been pushing it every chance I get, and plan to buy a copy for my teenage brother...plus as a graduation gift for my cousins. The illustrations are wacky, but not childish. My favorite detail is the collection of icons used to show what catagories recipes fall into. This book is the perfect combination of entertainment and useful information!
