An interesting mix of recipes, but I found them a bit over-reliant on cheese and somewhat expensive ingredients. That said, the ones I tried did taste very nice. Not a book for those watching the pennies!

I'm not a vegetarian, but a vegetarian friend showed me her copy of this book, and I just had to buy it. Every recipe I've tried works fantastically well, and whenever I use the recipes to entertain, they are extremely well received. A number of my friends have now bought the book too. I'm definitely going to buy more of Rose Elliot's books.

: Neris and India's Idiot Proof Diet Cookbook

Neris and India's Idiot Proof Diet Cookbook

by: India Knight, Neris Thomas, Bee Rawlinson

I love cooking and we have a "cooked from scratch" dinner every night. I went on this diet when it first came out, lost 2 stone but then gave up as I couldn't face food without the things I love (bread, pasta, pastry, potatoes, colourful veg, rice, muesli!)

Having put the two stone back on (and the rest) I had to consider which I preferred: eating whatever I wanted to and being overweight or being slim. I decided to go back on the diet but to try some specific cookbooks alongside.

I have to say that I love this book! I literally have hundreds of cookbooks that I've collected over the years, and very few of them hold the high percentage of "would cook again and again" recipes that this book does! It's great, and I am particularly ... Read More:

I can see how this might work for some people, but it definitely wont work for me. I have IBS which is triggered by dairy amongst other things, and a lot of these recipes have things that I cant eat suxh as butter and cream, although they do sound tasty.

However, my main concern with this book is the misleading information. Reference to good fats in butter and double cream, in my opinion, is complete nonsense. The fats found here are saturated fats, the bad kind. The 'good fats', or fatty acids, that are an essential part of our diet are found in foods such as nuts, avocados, olive oil and oily fish, NOT butter and cream. I think Neris and India should have put a bit more research into this before misleading their readers.

I tried a low-carb diet last year (with "Idiot Proof Diet") and lost lots of weight. However, I love cooking and I love food and so came off the diet and put all the weight back on eventually (of course).
When I became miserable enough with myself I had to reconsider the low-carb route. This time I decided to buy a couple of books to allow myself more variety and I bought this along with the recipe book that is now available alongside the Idiot Proof Diet (very, very good recipes too).
I definitely wouldn't want to be without this recipe book as everything I have tried turns out well and for instance means we can still have lasagne and pizza!

I bought this, and 2 other carb counting books, because I have 2 children who are Type 1 diabetic and we need to carb count for the basal bolus insulin regime they are using. I found it so useful I bought another 3, 1 each for the kids and 1 to be kept in the kitchen. The other books got left on the shelf, this one is far and away the easiest to use (& to carry around) and the best thing it's all UK foods, products and measurments. Since my children are teenagers the fact that it includes fast foods from the likes of McDonalds is really helpful too, they are much more inclined to use this than the others. All in all we have been really pleased with this book and would recommend it to anyone needing to keep an eye on their carb intake.

Newly diagnosed with diabetes, I was looking for some help counting carbs to offset my medication. I'm a real foodie with a passion for cooking (and eating!)so I was really disappointed when the 3 or 4 other books I had ordered were all American based with cup measurements and ingredients I hadn't heard of.

I ordered this (used) book from Amazon and I haven't looked back. It's clear, concise, easy to follow and full of useful everyday recipes.

It offers recipes for breakfast drinks, hot breakfast, cold breakfast, soups, fish, shellfish, meat, poultry, side dishes and vegetarian, as well as desserts!!

I'm always a bit dubious about reviewers who say things like "my bible" but this has really given me a great basis for planning ... Read More:

Just what I was looking for: healthy recipe ideas for packed lunches and light evening meals that don't require too many fancy ingredients or time to put together (the pitta pocket fillers are handy).
I'm not really a dessert person, but the quick, tasty recipes have made me realise I don't have to be baking pastry and doing fiddly toppings for hours.
If you love spending time in the kitchen this book is NOT for you!

 : Neris and India's Idiot-proof Diet

Neris and India's Idiot-proof Diet

by: India Knight, Neris Thomas
January 04, 2007

I was introduced to Nerys and India's diet by my daughter who had lost weight in the right places and was feeling it easy to stick to. I started on the diet with confidence and find I am losing weight steadily over 14 weeks and have lost a stone - I find that my IBS which has made my life difficult for the past 12 or so years has almost completely disappeared and I no longer have to carry immodium - I suffered from very embarrassing wind which has cleared and although they did say in the book that this probably would happen I didn't really believe that it would. I intend to stick to their eating plan for life but will of course stray just a little on holidays or what ever - it has certainly helped me considerably.
