The recipes in this book use inexpensive ingredients, they are quick and easy to make. The only problem is that all the weights and measurements are in American, which meant that I was spending a lot of time converting to British measurements.
Just what I was looking for: healthy recipe ideas for packed lunches and light evening meals that don't require too many fancy ingredients or time to put together (the pitta pocket fillers are handy).
I'm not really a dessert person, but the quick, tasty recipes have made me realise I don't have to be baking pastry and doing fiddly toppings for hours.
If you love spending time in the kitchen this book is NOT for you!

This is a great book to have on nights where you want dinner on the table within 30 mintues. There are lots of helpful tips about ingredients, substitions, as well as a nutritional break down. New vegetarians will find this book especially helpful and those of us who have been vegetarian for awhile i'm sure will find new ideas. I know I did.

An interesting mix of recipes, but I found them a bit over-reliant on cheese and somewhat expensive ingredients. That said, the ones I tried did taste very nice. Not a book for those watching the pennies!

In spite of good intentions,I've never used this book because it requires measuring in the American cup system. I'm still loathe to use metric and rely on my trusty imperial scales, but this is a cup too far. Also the book assumes you understand the Weight Watchers points system. I've never been to WW (nor do I have any inclination to) so this book has left me wanting more than it was prepared to offer.

How silly that I had to give this appalling book a star just so I could post my review! Really, Amazon, are we not allowed to give a zero rating???
Anyway, as you can see from my title, I do, indeed give this book NO STARS.
Well LANGUAGE "ladies", please! Thank goodness the authors had the idea of letting the customer see inside the book before purchasing! The finger-pointing, aggressive tone is bad enough, but the "F" word a few pages in, describing soda manufacture, is indefensible. I would not give this insulting book shelf-room. Do yourselves a favour, don't buy it!

I'm not a vegetarian, but a vegetarian friend showed me her copy of this book, and I just had to buy it. Every recipe I've tried works fantastically well, and whenever I use the recipes to entertain, they are extremely well received. A number of my friends have now bought the book too. I'm definitely going to buy more of Rose Elliot's books.

I am a great fan of Rose Elliot and I have a number of her books which I use frequently. In recent years, my family has decided to cut down on fat and sugar in our diet, and I thought the title of this book by one of my favourite food authors was promising. Sadly, the recipes are too extreme for someone who wants simply to correct the balance of their everyday diet. Those I have tried were lacking in flavour and interest, and so low in calories that the family had to fill up on bread and butter! If you are a vegetarian in the really low calorie stage of a diet, then this book could be a useful resource for you, but if you are wanting some tasty recipes to keep your family's fat and sugar intake down on a permanent lifestyle change basis, then I ... This is a great little book. It provides 13 menus for each of the 4 seasons. They are varied and use seasonal produce. Perhaps there is a wider range of veggies available in supermarkets today than she actually uses (e.g. peppers are almost exclusively green in the book), but its still great. Even my carnivorous husband has been happy to eat the breakfasts and dinners (albeit increasing the quantities by 50%) and admits to enjoying them. So far I've lost 6 kilos in 3 months and I haven't been exclusively on the diet - the odd weekend off and 3 weeks of holiday. There are some really good big breakfasts & some good salads for lunch - the spring chickpea one & the summer mixed bean & pea one are especially good. Even things that sound ... Read More:
