Just what I was looking for: healthy recipe ideas for packed lunches and light evening meals that don't require too many fancy ingredients or time to put together (the pitta pocket fillers are handy).
I'm not really a dessert person, but the quick, tasty recipes have made me realise I don't have to be baking pastry and doing fiddly toppings for hours.
If you love spending time in the kitchen this book is NOT for you!

I ordered this for a dragon obsessed, militant vegetarian (aged 7!), after finding it in the age 5 - 8 range. On its arrival, I found it to be a wonderful book - very colourful and with a great message! However, I think my friend's 7 year old would feel quite patronised if I gave this to her for her birthday, as it's more suited to a younger child, so I've decided to keep it for younger visitors to the house, or in anticipation of my own children instead!

I've been vegetarian for all my adult life and I can honestly say that I have never found a recipe book with as high a hit rate as this one. I've tried loads of the meals and all have been fantasic. What I like most is the combination of really easy to follow recipes, easy to find ingredients and exciting/unusual flavours.
I've bought this book a few times to give as presents once people had tried some of the food at my place. It's a cheap little book and as an added bonus, you have a breakdown of the recipes by carbs, fat and calories, so it's easy to find something to suit your needs.
If you only buy one vegetarian recipe book, buy this one. You really won't be disappointed.

I really like this book, it is constantly off the shelf, really well presented with full colour illustrations for every recipe and an at a glance guide for what you need for each one as well as some illustrated instructions. The carrot cake is fab, the bean burgers scrummy BUT don´t expect your toodler to suddenly start eating peppers and spinach etc just because author says they will! One of mine is eating broccoli now thanks to this book though! Worth every penny.

Overall, there's some passably decent recipes here, but it depends how you want them presented.
If you've just started out as a veggie and your family are not very sympathetic, a book with a tone like this is going to help make them regard you as the family freak. It might help them to find practical (if quite boring) ways of feeding you in the short term, but in the long run it will have your family 'putting up' with your so-called eccentric feeding habits like they'd put up with it if you were mildly mentally retarded. Even the childish title is about having a 'lack' of something!
The tone of the introduction is incredibly patronising, putting forward the kind of twee statements most vegetarians will have got sick of ... Read More:

I became a vegetarian in 2007, towards the end of my first year at university. My family were concerned about how I was going to cope with making meals that were nutritious and varied and if I'm being honest, I was a little concerned myself. However, it was something I really wanted to do. Initially it was because meat was expensive to buy and I didn't really like preparing it. I now think that if I was presented with a meat dish I'd be unable to eat it as it has become more of a moral crusade!
This was the first solely vegetarian cookbook I purchased and it's constantly in use. I love the way the recipes are laid out - the star rated difficulty levels, the step by step instructions and especially the photographs of the recipes - if ... Read More:

Granted, this book has some nice recipes BUT most of the recipes require LOADS of ingredients, with as many herbs and spices as you can shake £20 at!
(oh and the cheap eats sections is a joke in itself!)
Also, most of the meals are for 4 people and take about 40 minutes to cook, why? student mealtime averages out to be at 2-3am, not family dinner time at all!
Good book, but they need a pinch of common sense and a sprinkle of budget
