I am one of those people who loves history movies and read books of like a child, but this movie it is not about history. Everyone should watch this movie for what it is, a superb cast, actors, costumes, panorama, etc... Effects are morethan beautiful executed, I am speachless and I recomend to everybody to buy this DV's simply for what it is, a superb film.
The novel of "The Other Boleyn Girl" is a bit of a guilty pleasure. I've re-read it many times and can see why it would make an excellent subject for dramatisation so why is it so difficult to get right? OK, so certain things may have to be altered to suit modern sensibilites. The fact that Mary was in her early teens when she started her affair with Henry wouldn't sit comfortably with your average cinema audience so I can understand that being altered.
I wanted to like this largely because I didn't like the Hollywood version. The chauvanist in me wanted to think that the BBC could do it better (it usually does after all.) Sadly, I was disapointed. The whole thing seemed colourless and lacking in the sense of drama and excitement ... Read More:

The film was a bit of a let down because they missed what I thought was several key points of the book. However it is a good film to see.

At once more ambitious and less intriguing than its predecessor, Elizabeth: The Golden Age certainly isn't the abject disaster reviewers claimed on its theatrical release, although it's not nearly as engrossing as the original. Unfortunately, while Shekhar Kapur opens up the action and opts for a much lighter palate this time round, with at least a trailer's worth of striking visuals, the results are not particularly compelling. By focusing on the best-known part of the Virgin Queen's reign there's less of the constant sense of danger that marked its predecessor even though it amps up the threat by pitting her not against her own court but the might of the Spanish Empire and its Armada. Yet, being a sequel, it adheres to the `the same but different,' and there's ... Read More:

Among Great Britain's monarchs, two queens stand out in particular: Elizabeth I. and Queen Victoria. Both came to power at extremely young ages, and at times of political instability which would have set the odds of survival against any new ruler, but particularly so, against a woman. Both beat those odds in ways few people would have foreseen: They not only persevered but ruled for a nearly unparalleled long time, and during their reign achieved to both strengthen England's economy and international stance and give new direction to its society. We have long come to identify their reign as "the Victorian Age" and "the Elizabethan Age," respectively. Yet, while "Victorian England" is an expression often used synonymously with moral conservativism, Elizabeth I. fostered not ... Read More:

Never been interested in Period Dramas and Colin Firth does nothing for me, only wanted to see this one because of the twist and the great cast. This is great TV, I haven't enjoyed a series as much as this in a long time. I thought do I need to buy a DVD when I've seen the series on TV, of course I did its Addictive and brought two of them. I don't mind if someone borrows ONE, that way I will never be without my Darcy. Who wouldn't want to watch Elliot Cowan Articulate, Educated and Handsome (Sexy)man. I think I've fallen a little in love with him myself. OOPS! Did I say that out loud.
I cannot say enough about this series only want more!!!

This is quite a good historical piece of 18th century London. It attempts to show the city as it really was rather than a polite and idealistic view. I feel that it does modernise the period somewhat with its 'modern' swearing amd mores, but basically it is a good programme that has an authentic feel. My only gripe is with the background music and the monologue at the beginning of every episode. At least the music is kept under control in most episodes, and most scenes are without it - thank goodness. However, in the last episode the sound engineer obviously could stand it no longer and everything is thrown in - bongos, violins, pianos, weird noise and so on. There is no need for this interference with the programme - it especially made an impact on as I had just watched the second series ... Read More:

This is one of the worst films I've seen in my life! When you are watching it,you absolutely can't stand Jane, who is presented sometimes as a mean and sometimes as an old spinster. The worst thing about the film is the way it was shot.Director did a poor job, especially when characters are walking,or dancing because it's like camera is moving as well,so sometimes it was so bad for my eyes. After you watched this film the only conclusion is that Jane Austen was a sad little creature-a plain Jane.
