After hearing A-Punk what sane music lover couldn't want this album?
But with few tracks being as fun or catchy I was slightly disappointed. The album failed to make me bop continuously for the 34.2 minutes like i was expecting instead bringing out a slightly less catchy side. It's still listenable... I got this for nothing, fortunately. I can't understand all the comparisons with Scott Walker. Yes, there is an orchestra involved and the arrangements are very full and reminiscent of the sixties but the voice!!! Aargh! It's horrible. And the lyrics are pathetic. Overrated, overstated, overblown. It gets two stars for the very good musicianship and interesting arrangements. But that voice...

I'm only writing a review to let you know that when it says its coming from Amazon, it actually from a company in Jersy "Indigostarfish".
It's all in good condition, but when it says NEW, I expect it to be wrapped in plastic, so I can break the seal. This wasn't! I didn't want to leave this feedback here, but you can't rate Amazon itself. Back to the music, in short this album is awesome. When first heard I thought what a good album, but it gets better and now is a great album. ONE OF THE BEST!!! >>More Details |

Sorry to say I had never even heard of Elbow until I caught them on TV at this years Glastonbury.
Liked what I heard and bought the album (before they won the Mercury prize I hasten to add) Was completely blown away by it. Have since invested in their back catalogue which have been equally impressive. All are highly recommended It has certainly restored my interest in music . >>More Details |

Ok, when i first buy my cd i always drift through it, listen to the song with a gd start and gain a first impression. First impressions weren't good. so i left it a couple of weeks and decided to listen to it again, this time the whole way through. thinking i didn't like it i was pretty reluctant to do so, but i did and i was shocked, shocked at how i had completely missed coldplays aim. to create a quility album which isn't too full on. every song is brilliant in its own way, hardly any of the songs are the same but they are all great. if coldplay havn't been your thing in the past give them another go, you may be pleasantly surprised.

A cracking modern pop album that doesn't take itself too seriously or try to be anything it isn't - no po-faced deep and meaningful "message" here and all the better for it. Think somewhere between a Roxette that isn't trying so hard to be cool and a grown-up high-school musical without the schmaltz and you're about there. Don't think you don't like pop because you can't stand the bubblegum warbling that infests the charts - this is how it should be done.

The most uplifting album I've heard for a while. This album is packed with boisterous, singalong classics that fulfill the promise of Costello Music. This is a better album. The Fratellis have obviously gained in confidence and there is evidence of abundant songwriting and technical skill here. On first listen, I was struck by musical reminders of Artic Monkeys (My Friend John), Suede(Lupe Brown), Waterboys and Kasabian (Tell Me a Lie), for example. This was a departure from Costello Music which had a consistent Slade feel. The variety of styles is welcome and promises even better for the future because it suggests a good understanding of what it takes to write great songs.

Listen to anything remotely resembling pop music these days and you will always find a trace of the formulaic about it. If nothing else, the 21st century has refined pop music into something of a formulaic commodity. Mind you, there are some would argue Mickey Most was doing the same thing back in 1973...
Santogold's debut does contain some ambitions to meet some kind of blueprint. Upon first hearing I found it utterly generic - a record in search of a hit, if you like. The sound is clean and somewhat calculated. Then after a few plays the thing reveals something of a little more substance. This is the first Pigeon Detectives album that I have bought, and it is really rather good. Really like it from first listen, only just received it today! It is a little like Franz Ferdinand meets the Arctic Monkeys, both of which I love - so its great!!! Excellent guitar riffs throughout. Couldn't decide whether to go for 4 or 5 stars lol.
