Rating: - Is it perfect? No. Does it rock? Yes.
Having played the previous fallouts (and especially loving #2), I couldn't wait for this game to come out. While it is far from perfect, I still feel it encompasses the essence of fallout and is faithful to the original series. It also takes up a large chunk of time if you go out exploring and doing side quests. The storyline may be a little weak, but I didn't necessarily feel it was that strong in the previous stories.
Many of the complaints extend from the game being too easy late in the game or lack of i world impact (what you do at X impacts Y). Based off fallout 2, I have to disagree with these sentiments. While the characters and speech may be better in the 2nd, I found fallout 2 to be quite easy... high power weapon + ... Read More:
Rating: - Another terrific game from Bethesda
My first experience with a Bethesda product was Daggerfall back around 1995. Since then, I've played many more of their games, and nearly every one is fantastic. Redguard I've played through multiple times. Morrowind looked great, and I wanted to love it, but I always found myself battling with the interface. But they totally fixed that with Oblivion, which was absolutely amazing. I also loved how it was open-ended enough to allow for the expansion even after beating the game. Fallout 3 is built on top of the Oblivion engine, which makes it a visually stunning delight to play. I completed it at level 17, but then went back to do a bunch of the side quests, collect more bobbleheads, and try some of the alternate endings.
Rating: - An amazing game
This is an amazing RPG / FPS hybrid. If you liked Deus Ex or any RPGs you must play this game. The PC version has some minor problems here and there, but no major issues. The PC version will also have DL content. The best feature of PC (other than better graphics) is mods. There are ALOT of really good mods that add content or features that the game was missing.
This is a must play, even if it isn't Fallout 1 / 2.
Rating: - Maybe I was expecting too much...
Perhaps I built this game up too much in my head, given that I've been a big fan of Fallout 1, 2, and Tactics, but this game just barely failed to live up to the hype in my head. Don't get me wrong, its an amazing game with way more space than I could ever care to explore. The wasteland is HUGE and beautifully rendered (for a post-apocalyptic wasteland), the combat system is innovative and easy to figure out, and the characters look amazing. But after all the 95-100% ratings I saw for this game, I was expecting something that would completely engulf me for days, permanently redefine my gaming experience; this is not that game. After a while many aspects of the game, from combat to dialogue, become rather formulaic, and the main story line involves ... Read More:
Rating: - Oblivion with Guns
It seemed like it was based on the Oblivion engine, so it had Havok physics. However, if you played other games by Bethesda, such as Morrowind, the game feels a bit more limited due to invisible barriers (like climbing over rubble and finding you can't go any further). It has a very similar speaking style to the original Fallout where you can choose from many different options, i.e. where you can be a jerk or nice to someone. Sometimes the VATS (the targeting program) can be useful because bullets are a bit random, unlike other first person shooters. Many of the original weapons and armor make an appearance, only in 3D.
