I was really looking forward to getting this book since other reviews on the site were good. After receiving it, I'm disappointed. Most of the recipes don't appeal to me (and I admit that I am not a gourmand by any means). The recipes have too many ingredients that I never have on hand and would not want to buy. The combination of ingredients seem strange on a lot of the sandwiches. I'll pass this book along to someone who may appreciate it more. I would not buy it if I had it to do all over again.

This book is very much like the adult version only with pictures. It would be good for later elementary ages through probably middle school. Being a teacher of lower elementary, I enjoyed it myself!

This is a beautiful book to look through. As a practical guide, however,
it didn't really offer much that I could use. I have found it very difficult to locate a good number of the cheeses described in the book. So, while it was fun to read about international cheeses and the history of cheeses, I have not been able to actually try them, which I thought would be the point of the book.
Living in the Midwest, I am well aware that the nearby state of Wisconsin is the biggest producer of cheeses in the U.S. and I expected that region to be well represented in the book. Several cheesemakers there have won international contests, in the cheddar category as well as several others, and yet I found only one reference to a Wisconsin cheesemaker. ... Read More:

I am the Cheese is a great story about a young boy named Adam Farmer who is from the fictional town of Monument, Massachusetts. His life is very normal, but very unusual at the same time. It all starts one day when he is very young and his family leaves their home in the middle of the night. They arrive in Monument a few days later. His old location is also in the Northeast. Throughout the years Adam has continously heard his dad talking to a man named Mr. Grey on the phone. He does not know who the man is, but he does know that Mr. Grey plays a very significant role in his and his family's life. Adam eventually gets suspicious when he notices he has two different birth certificates with different birth dates. The whole book is based around Adam on his quest to deliver ... Read More:

Marlena Spieler, Macaroni and Cheese (Chronicle, 2006)
What can you possibly say about a cookbook that contains nothing but macaroni and cheese recipes? I can only think of one thing: delicious. Marlena Spieler has created another excellent cookbook, spiced up with gorgeous photography, that's full of recipes that are begging me to try them. How can that be anything but an unqualified success? ****
Who Cut the Cheese: A Cultural History of the Fart by Jim Dawson: This makes the list because it's so fun to go to the library and ask if they have it in, even if you own a copy. This book is actually well researched though there is some "potty humor". A distasteful subject presented in such a way to make the topic culturally/historically interesting. Did you know the Arab word for "silent fart" and "death sentence" are only one letter different? And Benjamin Franklin wrote an essay called "Fart Proudly"? If you keep blaming the dog, buy this book.

I have purchased 5 cheese making books before buying this one - and it was well worth the wait. We have made the cheeses and now are about to open our small factory. The American Farmstead Cheese book is explaining most of our questions, the how's, the why's. There aren't any recipes however the information is spot on. All I need to know now is how to make a creamy Danish type Feta - any suggestions?

I make cheese, run a website and forum at CheeseForum org, and got this book to broaden my knowledge of different cheeses. "The Murray's Cheese Handbook" is a long thin ½ in/1 cm thick format good for putting in a pocket. It was written by the current owner of the famous Murray's Cheese Store in New York City, USA. It has the normal intro and FAQ and pairing with wine sections but the bulk of the book is a listing and summary of 300+ of the author's favorite US and international cheeses, roughly ½ a page per cheese, no pictures. Nice quality paper, binding and cover that would stand up to many trips in pocket while visiting cheese stores. But, if you want more details and pictures there are better albeit bigger encyclopedia type books out there.
