This book is an excellent guide for beginners of veganism. I got it after I had read a couple of other books related to veganism. I thought it would be very informative and supportive to the change I made, and it has truly lived up to my expectation. It covers a wide variety of topics related to veganism, but I have especially enjoyed the information it gives on choosing a plant-based diet. It also provides many websites that are useful, especially if you are interested in ordering products that are vegan and often hard to come by in smaller communities. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has recently become vegan or is considering becoming a vegan...it is more infomative than persuasive, and it gives you lots of ideas and recipes in ... This is the best vegan book I've read so far. There is tons of information in this book that I couldn't find anywhere else, and it's nice to read about some sound science that backs a vegan lifestyle. If you are thinking of becoming a vegan or already are a vegan, this is a solid guide to help you better understand what foods to eat.

I find myself doubling the portions in this cookbook, not because they are too small, but because I've come to rely on eating my leftovers for lunch. I am a big fan of meals that keep well in the fridge or freezer - just because I often cook only for myself doesn't mean I'm not busy!!!
I agree with a previous reviewer who did not like the "meal-plan" format...especially since dinner is pretty much the only meal discussed here. There is no table of contents, and the indexing isn't the best. From what I've tried so far, the recipes are yummy.

We have three of the authors cookbooks and we love them all. What I really like is that I know I can count on Dreena when there are kids or omni guests to feed. I also like the element of simplicity she keeps while creating some really unusual and delicious dishes.

This book is not up to standards for a cookbook. I paid for this book to included the Author's autograph. It came with initials. There was money wasted. I am not impressed with the contents of the book either. Very disappointed. Do not buy this book!

This book is wonderful, even if you get it just to look at the pictures. I'm new to the world of vegan baking, and I bought this along with Isa's 2 other cookbooks. I like that they give you useful information along with the recipes. I've made 2 cupcakes so far, I wasnt blown away by either one, but I plan to try some of the more interesting ones in here. You do need a lot of ingredients that the average baker doesnt normally have on hand, but I'm slowly stocking up so I can take over the world with my cupcakes!

Just looking through the chapters I was in awe at the far reaching extent of Vegan Fire & Spice ... Close to Callalou, Nigerian Peanut Soup, Majorcan Baked Vegetables, Turkish Eggplant, Moroccan Spiced Carrots, Vegetable Samosas, Vindaloo Vegetables, Fusian Asian Noodles, Hunan Fried Rice, Indonesian Coconut Rice ... I could easily go on as this cookbook has around 200 savory recipes. Yes, savory. I have to admit, as much as I love dessert, I find the baked goods and sweets recipes often overwhelm vegan cookbooks. Robin gets right to the point, offering tons of recipes for everyday meals. And I do mean everyday. While the flavors may be exotic, the ingredients are surprisingly accessible. Most of the recipes can be whipped up using ingredients I readily stock ... Read More:

After becoming vegan due to severe diabetes and high cholesterol, I was growing tired of the same dishes. Finding this rich resource has made it much easier to stick to my diet as I have prepared many of the recipes. It is not only a good recipe resource, but an enjoyable glimpse into the culture or Italy through their food choices. Very good book.

I own at least a dozen vegan cookbooks and this is by far my favorite. Whenever I want to make nutritious comfort foods--which is pretty much everyday--I turn to this book first. I have tried nearly every recipe in Vegan Vittles and have only been disappointed by about three of them--all the other recipes yielded fantastic results that everyone in my family enjoyed.
I highly recommend this book to folks who are new to vegan cooking and cooks who want hearty, traditional American veg food without too many expensive exotic ingredients, heavy spices, or mock meats.
