This is one of my favourite books. I have tried a ton of the recipes and have found them all to be to my liking. I've had this book since '98 and have been using it ever since. I haven't tried the desserts yet but plan to make the vegetarian mince-meat tarts and the plum pudding. I live at a very high altitude and don't always feel like making adjustments to dessert recipes which require baking.
I have found that this book contains not only simple recipes that are quick, easy and delicious, but also more complicated and complex recipes as well.
The encyclopedic portion explains many factoids about various ingredients and also gives tips on how to find and prepare them. I hadn't known that pulses needed to be boiled for ten minutes ... Read More:

The silk road from China to Italy traverses an unbelievable diversity of cooking styles and tastes, yet Najmieh Batmanglij somehow manages to conquer this complexity. All of the recipes are well-developed, creating dishes with the full flavor and aroma one would expect if each night one walked into a Persian, a Turkish, Indian or even Thai restaurant.
The book is lavishly illustrated with pictures and stories from the regions of the recipes. Although broadly diverse, the cooking of Batmanglij's native Iran is exceptionally well-represented.
The recipes themselves are easy to follow, but not intended for the casual cook. Pomegranate juice, rose water, pistachios and saffron are common, but a prepared cook will find the ... Read More:

What, No Meat?!: What to Do When Your Kid Becomes a Vegetarian
I love this book b/c it's easy to read and understand. THe menus and recipes are simple as well - although I wish there were more! It's a great book for new vegetarians and their meat-eating parents. It's also good for vegetarian parents who are not exactly sure about nutritional values.

My 5 and 3 year old love this story. The art is pretty cool and the story is so-so. I understand the idea... live and let live. You eat your way and I will eat mine, which is a great message... maybe a bit more on being a vegetarian? I don't know, it is a kids book.
The drangon is great though!
I bought this book based on the reviews I read. Lots of the recipes sound delicious and it has readily available ingredients. However, I am a simple cook, don't like a lot of ingredients or things that take a lot of prep. Most of these recipes have many, many ingredients. I am keeping it and I will use a few recipes, but it won't end up being a favorite go-to book. I am disappointed because it sounded so good in the reviews!

This cookbook is informative, a well written introduction, however it is so cheaply made the binder broke within the first week. Now the recipes are not held together by a binder just loose. It is just so cheaply made I can't believe I paid $14.95 for it. If I saw it a bookstore I would have never bought it. It looks so homemade a $5.00 cookbook at best. There are no concise instructions how to cook vegetables. There are no photographs either. That being said, there are some unique, healthy recipes. This cookbook was just okay.

I love these books. They are the most convenient, easy to use cookbooks I have ever run across. Each week, they give you a varying menu of dinners for 6 days. The first page for each week's section is a shopping list (YEAH - EASY). I take the book with me to the store, buy what I don't have and cook an easy to prepare meal each evening. My picky son usually likes the recipes, too. I own 3 of these cookbooks. Most of the recipes have been really good, although a very few just don't work. Anyway, these are great cookbooks. I recommend them to everyone.

I only got to page 3 because I saw something that was completely non-vegetarian listed in a vegan recipe! "Chili Bonzos" call for Worcestershire Sauce. I don't know if the author knew, but one of the main ingredients in Worcestershire Sauce is ANCHOVIES! If one were to assume that the author meant Vegetarian Worcestershire Sauce, then shouldn't that have been covered in the Ingredient Information section at the beginning of the book?
I'm already turned off of it and I don't know if I'll read past page 3 unless it's just to look for more errors.

Unlike other books I've looked at that were primarily vegetarian cookbooks, Being Vegetarian is meant to teach you how to go vegetarian, why vegetarianism is a good and healthy option, and how to survive and thrive as a vegetarian. It does a truly amazing job of this, covering a wide array of fascinating and helpful information.
While the author is a lacto vegetarian (a vegetarian who eats dairy products), she details the wide array of potential vegetarian diets, from the least strict to the most. Her recipes suit a lacto vegetarian diet, although she includes suggestions for adapting them to vegans.
Dr. Wolfe includes a huge amount of nutrition information, both in support of the idea that a vegetarian diet is a perfectly healthy one, and to ... Read More:
