I got this books recently and I just love everything about it. With a very detailed and informative introduction to vegetarian diet, it beautifully explains much you need to know about vegetables, fruits, dairy, grains, pasta and a brief introduction to proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals and carbohydrates and daily portions. Recipes are organized by Breakfast & Brunch; Starters & Snacks; Soups; Salads; Side Dishes; Main Courses; Pasta & Grains; Eggs & Cheese and Desserts.
Recipes are easy to follow, ingredients are readily accessible and the results are very rewarding. It almost feels like magic.
All of this designed and presented artistically with beautiful and very colorful pictures. Simply DELICIOUS!!!

Although some of the statistics in this book may be out of date, the information is still quite accurate (you just have to use the ratios given and apply to todays costs).
This book will provide you an education on why a vegetarian diet is good for you and how you can actually provide all the nutrition you need from various fruit, veg & legumes. Even if you are not intending to become a total vegetarian it will provide you with a newer healthy perspective of what to eat and how to find the various products.
One aspect of the book that I find interesting is the wide amount of research done about socio-economic impacts of a general meat-eating populus. It actually points out that a lot of essential foods (vegetables ... Read More:

I have a sagging shelf of cookbooks, most of them vegan. This is the one cookbook I have other than my Betty Crocker (that has so many recipes fun to veganize) that includes mention of meat. Another reviewer gave this cookbook a bad rating due to the author's lack of clarification concerning oyster sauce (vegan versions are readily available at Asian food markets and elsewhere). I think this is a bad move on the reviewer's part. This omission is regrettable, but it in no way diminishes the fine job that the author does in doing what her job was: to come up with awesome recipes and provide readers with instructions on how to duplicate them.
My only complaint about the cookbook is that many of the recipes end up being pretty heavy on oil. ... Read More:

I really like this cookbook. It opens up a whole new way of cooking and eating. The recipes are great and don't take hours to prepare. Tastes that are wonderful and healthy, too! What more can you ask for? Great for vegetarians and meat eaters who choose not to eat meat all the time.

I have not finished the book, but already started following the plan. Food is much more filling. I've only been "flexing" for about two weeks. I don't weigh myself - but can tell my clothes are fitting better. And, I feel better. I'm a single parent of an 11 year old girl, so I and am very happy with teaching her the right way to eat. I plan to order a few books as gifts for friends I know will appreciate the approach.

As a long-time vegetarian with a big shelf full of books I am hard to excite with another new vegetarian cookbook. Receiving this book as a gift I expected another beautifully presented volume created for maximum impact on the coffee table but out of place in a practical - I've got a day job, omnivorous family to feed and no time for mucking about - kitchen. As this book is from a non-vegetarian, non-chef, I was not expecting much.
What I discovered was a great set of quirky vegetarian recipes that are well explained and do not require exotic ingredients or days of preparation.
Christmas dinner is the ultimate test for me. My wife's family are not vegetarians and serving something that's not Meat, Meat and Two Veg is breaking all the rules ... Read More:

I've had this book for years, and always go back to it. It has many of the well-known vegetarian staples, and the recipes are simple and straight-forward - very few hard-to-find or hard-to-afford ingredients. The book also contains plenty of basic recipes beyond "meat-substitute" dishes (such as pancakes and muffins).
Despite the simplicity of the recipes, I haven't had one turn out bad and have had many turn out wonderfully. They are also easily adaptable and fun to experiment with. A great cookbook to grow with, and a great basic reference.

I tried 4 recipes from this cookbook today and there wasn't one that I didn't want to eat straight from the pan! They were flavorful and delicious. I've always enjoyed resturaunt Thai primarily because i'm nuts about basil but I wanted to expand my repitoire. As explained in the book these aren't dishes with the meat left out, these are recipes that were created from scratch without meat even being a consideration. The ingrediants are easy to find (with the exception of Bitter gourd I NEVER can find that) with enough variety that you won't become bored. I was also pleasantly suprised that the dishes I tried weren't volcanically hot. They were pleasantly spicy much on par with Indian food but won't upset your stomach. I highly recommend this book.
