The recipes are tasty and simple. The ingredients are easy to find. The only other thing I would have liked for this book is more pictures.

Taken from the time-honored Joy of Cooking: 75th Anniversary Edition - 2006, All About Vegetarian Cooking is a lovely introduction to eating vegetarian and includes an informative intro about various kinds of vegetarians (lacto, ovo, macrobiotic, vegan), the advantages of eating organic veggies, nutrition for vegetarians, serving sizes (based on the 1995 guidelines), dietary essentials, and menu planning based around a variety of ethnic favorites such as Italian, Middle Eastern, Asian, Indian, and more.
The included recipes are fairly standard versions of those you'll find elsewhere. The bonus here is the numerous photographs of prep and informative footnotes sprinkled throughout. For example, the soups chapter starts with the basics ... Read More:

Every recipe I've made from this book has turned out beautifully. The flavours are complex and the ingredients are easily sourced from Asian grocery stores.
This is one of the few Indian cookbooks that instructs you on making dosa and for this alone it is worth having.
If you love Indian food I would highly recommend this book, even if you are not a vegetarian.

I ordered this book for my Dad only to find he already owned it. When I received it I refused the order and Amazon still charged me shipping, even after I called within hours of my order to cancel and they could not help me. BUt I would recommend this book if you are looking for some good trail food?
My husband and I have been ovo-lacto vegetarians for 13 years and have been reviewing vegetarian meal plans for quite a while. The information in this book reads like a stream of consciousness journal and at times the author contradicts herself. We did not find her argument and meal plans she presents as something we wanted to implement. Since she refers to the USDA pyramid for Vegetarians, it is just as useful to create a profile on that website.

Some 20 years ago, I was a vegan for a couple of years and absolutely loved this cookbook. Well, my youngest daughter, aged almost-16, recently became a vegetarian. I have pulled out my favorite vegetarian cookbooks, which I had saved, and was horrified to not be able to find The Farm's cookbook. I didn't think I'd ever be able to find it to purchase again. I have very fond memories of that book. I loved the Tofu Quiche, and the Nutritional Yeast Gravy. There were lots of other really good recipes, but those are the two that I made ALL THE TIME. I rate this book up there with Laurel's Kitchen Cookbook, and Laurel's Kitchen Bread Book. (Try the soymilk bread from LKBB--you'll never think of wholewheat bread the same again...yum...). Well, I've succumbed ... Read More:

We bought this book about 12-15 years ago and I wanted to see if it was updated. The book was real good then and I tried lots of things that didn't even sound like something we would eat. They were all good and passable then and probably still are. It must have been put together by someone who know what they were doing. The only thing I object to is when premade items (like soup, or roll mixes) are used in the "homemade" recipes.

Jeanne Lemlin is one of my favorite cookbook authors. Her recipes ALWAYS succeed. They are well-written and friendly and contain a nice diversity of dishes. If she says a recipe is "simple" or "quick" to prepare it will be. The dishes ALWAYS taste good. Vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike will enjoy any of her books. Quick Vegetarian Pleasures is full of winners!
