The is a very nice musical instrument, just as the other reviews have stated. I got one for my five-year old niece, who lives out of state. I was a little worried that it might be heavy and therefore expensive to send. But the "Angel" Glockenspiel is pretty light, so it will be a chinch to ship out, and for her to carry it with her. It's pretty sturdy, has an easy to open and there are no loose parts (except for the mallets, of course).
Yes, there are two full octaves, starting with "G" ("Sol"), and I was surprised to find all the sharps and flats, too!
There's also some little stickers with the "do", "re", "mi"-s on them. No music book. I think that by eight years old a child could read some simple music and play tunes. ... Read More:

I actually bought these for my young children. They love making music and the "kid's" versions don't withstand their playing. These drums have been used daily for a year now. Sound is decent and the actual drum itself is incredibly durable. These drums have been through it all and are still in great condition.

We purchased this product with standard shipping and it showed up at my door 3 days later. I was really nervous when I saw the bag with a lot of little pieces. Once we started putting it together, it was REALLY easy. We bought it for my son's 2nd birthday and he LOVES it. The quality is spectacular for the price; well worth it.

Basic Beat combination rhythm sticks are great! One is serated and makes a washboard sound when rubbed. I like the ability to have variety in the sounds with such a small, light weight, easy to carry around instrument! Great for children or adults, rhythm beginners or experts. Lots of fun to play and the smooth wood feels great in my hands.

This drum kit is ok, mostly for beginner-intermediate drummers. It needs new heads after a couple months or so. Cymbals arent so great, but you do what you can with what youve got. It also is very confusing and takes a long time to get set up, but once it is set up, it is a very decent set for the money.

Black plastic is very sturdy--looks like it will last forever. Handle is 4 inches long, 1.75 inches wide at the ends, 1.5 inches wide in the center. Weighs almost 1 lb. Jingles are loud, bright. I like hitting the inner circle with the pad of my hand, and then stroking the top circle with my fingers as I pull the tambourine away--gives an extra little "twrrr".

My son got these for his 4th birthday. He is now 6 and continues to enjoy them. They are really sturdy and are even fun for use by adults! Worth the money and the ear plugs!

My students love these little shakers. They are excellent for teaching rhythm and for teaching togetherness--especially in non-intimidating ways. Buy a bunch of these and keep them in your rainy day kit.
These are also fun at pep rallies, drum circles, parties, school carnivals, and athletic events. They make fun prizes too.

Background: I am a guitar player of about 33 years. I decided to try drums for the first time in my life. I didn't want to spend a fortune so I opted for this set despite the reviews. I am pleased that I am actually a half decent drummer! I guess the ability to keep time combined with the previous music knowledge helps.
The sound quality of this system is really pretty good and I was pleased for a few days.. Then the pedals started acting up. I would get two, three even four hits on the bass and hi hat occasionally! This made the unit unplayable to me. I did see a video on youtube where a guy put some capacitors in the pedals to cure the problem but I feel that you shouldn't have to work on a brand new product to make t useable, so back to Amazon ... Plan to set aside plenty of time to put this together (the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars) but the company is very helpful in assisting you with the assembly. Once finished, your child will have a terrific first drum set!
