This keeps getting cheaper on Amazon, I may have to fill my house with them!
Seriously, this is a great price for an automatic valve. I just got mine, so I can't speak to it's longevity.
The first thing I noticed is how bizarre the battery compartment was designed. I could see how some reviewers had problems with keeping the battery compartment dry. The seal should not have to compete with the springs that hold the battery in. Poor engineering.
Also, anytime a device uses dials, it's impossible to make it totally waterproof. So buyer beware.
Another oddity: for such a simple device, the instructions are written in a confusing manner. But it basically works as you expect. The manual overrides are just a little confusing. ... Read More:

This sprinkler was the best solution for my need to frequently water a newly-seeded lawn. It waters a 50+ ft. wide path where you lay out your hose. The only limit is how much hose it can drag behind it. When it reaches that limit, the wheels just dig into the dirt and the heavy sprinkler eventually shuts off it's water valve on the bottom.

I purchased one of these reels in early May 2008 because the plastic hose reel I had for 2 years was falling apart and was difficult to use. Over the years I have replaced my plastic hose reels every 2-3 years because the plastic breaks down in the sun and cranking the reel gets harder and harder. When I received the first Rapid Reel I was surprised to see that almost every part was made of metal and was very nicely manufactured. The assembly was easy and very straight forward. I was skeptical at first that reeling in the house would be any easier than with the old plastic reel --- boy was I surprised. This thing is smooth, efficient and sturdy, I can reel in 150 feet of hose with minimum effort. I liked the Rapid Reel so much that I purchased a second ... Read More:

This is the second one of these I have gotten. Obviously, I LIKE it! Not just a really practical outdoor sink, but I also like reeling up the long garden hose without the hassle of cranking the reel...letting the water do it for me!

This item is good & sturdy, it should hold up well under Gulf coast conditions...it survived Ike!! The negative: this reel doesn't hold the length of hose as specified though (maybe 125', but definitely not 150').

The watering balls did not work at all for me. I tried them in several different pots with no luck. The only time my plants were watered is when I lifted the balls out of the dirt. I had hoped that at least they would be decorations in the pots, put they are very heavy.

Don't waste your money on Home Depot garbage. My experience is that even their most expensive hoses leak and tangle. This hose is very well manufactured - you will feel the quality if you compare it to what you get from home center.

We gave this a try for about a month. We found the Crank Crate cumbersome and heavy. It also seized up in cold weather so we would not recommend this product. Our neighbors have one where the hose is exposed and is on substantial wheels - a much better design for mobility.
